Free online course for new Patient and Public Involvement Contributors
07 Oct 2026
We are excited to launch a new online course for new and aspiring Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) contributors. “Introduction to Clinical Trials for PPI Contributors” provides an accessible introduction to clinical trials and the research process, helping PPI contributors build the knowledge and confidence needed to contribute effectively to clinical research.
Co-developed with members of our PPI group, the course is designed to support people who are new to PPI. It aims to increase confidence and understanding, enabling PPI contributors to make informed and meaningful contributions to the studies they are involved in.
Through five self-paced modules, participants will learn about the foundations of evidence-based medicine, how clinical trials are designed, conducted and reported, what makes a robust clinical trial, how to understand and interpret trial results, and the important role that patients and members of the public can play throughout the research journey.
The course is fully online and can be completed at a pace that suits individual learners.
Whether you are interested in becoming a PPI contributor or are looking to strengthen your understanding of clinical research, this course offers a practical starting point for making a meaningful contribution to health research.
